The Lightest, Most Compact and Easiest to Fold Travel Strollers

To determine the top travel strollers, we evaluated nine that met our minimum weight and size requirements. Each model was put to the test on country sidewalks and in the terminal at the airport for mobility, ease of folding and carrying, and overall comfort for your child.

Our top choice is the Babyzen YoYo2 (320), which folds the most easily of the strollers we tested and can fit in the overhead bins on planes. The seat reclines nearly flat and is car seat-compatible which means it's suitable prams for newborns babies up to age 2. The car also has an undercarriage with a deep design and a bag-hook attached to the handle and UPF50+ canopy to provide plenty of protection for your child.

The Cybex Orfeo (320) is another option. It features an articula fold that can be completed using just one hand, and is very light. The padded five-point harness, an adjustable crotch strap and a Reversible seats ensure your child's safety and secure, while a large undercarriage basket and a reversible seat ensure that there is room for their belongings. It's also compatible with the brand's infant car seat which makes it an ideal option for families who start from the age of birth.

The Coya TRVL ($320), one-handed, one-step fold, is also compatible with car seats and features an enormous canopy. It's more expensive than other models in this class however, it comes with additional features such as a large parent pocket and cupholder as well as an adjustable handlebar to accommodate parents of all heights and a comfortable carry strap. The simple design does not mean it's as durable, as relative to other models in this category.

2. Folding is simple

A stroller that is designed for travel is one that is easy to open and shut when you're on-the-go. You do not want a stroller which is difficult to close when you have groceries or children in your arms. The best strollers for travel fold easily and compactly, even when you only have one hand. In our tests In our tests, the Libelle stroller scored highly for its ease of folding and compactness. It also has a few nice features: It rolls effortlessly over all surfaces and comes with a huge canopy that offers ample coverage. Additionally, it's extremely light and free-standing when folded which makes it easy to store.

For parents who want to roll straight to the plane gate and then put their stroller into an overhead bin, we suggest a model that promises to fit inside. The Munchkin Sparrow, for example, fits nicely into the smallest folding space and comes with a convenient travel cover, but it has no recliner and a tiny cargo space that can only accommodate a small bag or diaper bag (no backpacks).

The Babyzen Yoyo 2 is another option. It folds concertina-style fashion, but it also has a reversible seating position to ride face-to-face or back-to-back. The handle is hidden behind the seat, however our managing editor didn't like the way it folded.

The newest type of stroller that is a travel model is the tri-fold. It folds into thirds and offers the perfect combination of compactness and features. The UPPAbaby Minu for instance, comes with a reclined seat, a non-structured rear storage pouch, and a locking clasp that keeps it folded. It's a little bigger than the umbrella models made by the brand however, it folds more compactly than its G-Luxe and G-Link counterparts. It also comes with a carry strap with padding that can be worn over your shoulder.

3. Easy to store

The best strollers fold down to a small, easy-to-store size that's easy to fit in the trunk of your car or squeeze into the overhead bin of an airplane. Some models come with a strap you can use to carry the stroller over your shoulder, so that your hands won't get tired. They are also lighter than normal strollers, which can make them easier to carry and lift when you're ready to take a quick walk around the neighborhood or at the airport.

This stroller performed exceptionally well on our durability tests and was easy to maneuver across any type of surface. From smooth hardwoods to shag flooring, this stroller is an excellent choice. Some of our testers were a bit disappointed with the design and the handlebar wasn't padding to ensure that your hands are comfortable. Another thing to think about is the size of the storage basket is It's on the smaller side and some parents found it difficult to fit the large diaper bag inside it.

We suggest that you contact your airline prior to departure to confirm their specific guidelines regarding strollers. They may differ. This is especially important if you wish to check your stroller's gate-ability and allow you to get around the airport without it and still use it once you're on the plane (though that option won't work for families that require an infant car seat or booster).

The Contours Itsy travel stroller is an excellent option if you want a lightweight, compact stroller. It's almost fully assembled right out of the box, and the only thing you have to do is snap the bumper bar into the right position. It comes with a parent cup back pocket and holder, but no oversized basket that could make it difficult to carry essentials for a long-distance trip.

If you're a frequent traveler we suggest a more robust stroller that has more features and can carry more cargo. The UPPAbaby Mini, for instance, has many of its G-Luxe and G-Link siblings' features, but is smaller and folds more quickly. It's also slightly sturdier than an umbrella stroller, and it comes with a cushioned carrying strap that takes some of the weight off your shoulders.

4. Comfortable

Strollers are commonly used for long periods of time when traveling, which is why comfort is important. Find seats with plenty of padding and a recline feature that lets you set it at different angles. Note if the canopy extends to provide sun protection, and if the mesh windows allow airflow. If you have to carry items with you, consider a model with an organizer for parents and a cup holder as well as an enormous storage basket beneath the seat. When shopping for a travel child jogger, make sure to check the age range. Also, consider whether your child is comfortable in the seat, even without a car seat.
