7. Freddie Welsh: A clever defensive boxer, "The Welsh Wizard" was the British and European lightweight king before he won the world title in 1914. He competed in arguably the greatest 135 pound division in boxing history and holds wins over such luminaries as Benny Leonard, Willie Ritchie, Ad Wolgast, Abe Attell, "Peerless" Jim Driscoll, Battling Nelson, "Mexican" Joe Rivers, and he twice drew with the clever Packey McFarland.

There have been many moving parts in this stacked division, but it's important to note that the top ten fighters are actually fighting each other. Jose Benavidez and former champion Caleb Plant have locked in a date for their must-see matchup. Canelo Alvarez finally closed his book with Gennadiy Golovkin, and while Canelo is on a hiatus, top contenders like David Morrell, John Ryder, Lerrone Richards, Christian Mbili, Zach Parker and Carlos Gongora are all fighting for the Canelo sweepstakes. The Filipino sports icon Manny Pacquiao (62-8-2) started as a flyweight and won his first title in December 1998 when he knocked out Chatchai Sasakul in the eighth round of their match. In 2001, he dethroned Lehlo Ledwaba via sixth-round TKO to win his second title, the IBF Super Bantamweight belt.

Lightweight, with its roots stretching back to 1886, is a classic division that has featured some of the most skilled and versatile boxers in history, offering a perfect blend of speed, power, and technical prowess.

There are advantages and disadvantages to fighting in a heavier weight class. One advantage is that a boxer may maintain more of their strength and power by not having to cut weight to compete in a lower weight class. This can also lead to improved endurance and stamina, as the boxer won’t need to deplete the body through rapid weight loss.

As the first round of the group stage of the Super Six on Saturday approaches, the boxing world turns it’s eyes to Berlin, Germany, where former middleweight champ Jermain Taylor will take on undefeated former 160-pound standout Arthur Abraham, and to Nottingham, England, where unbeaten titleholder Carl Froch defends his belt against undefeated U.S. Olympian Andre Dirrell.

The 115-pound division holds two future Hall of Famers who can easily be considered legendary small men. Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez and Juan Francisco Estrada never fail to impress as we await them to complete their trilogy, hopefully later this year. But in recent months, an invader in this weight class has displayed pugilistic skills. Last-minute replacement Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez, just 23, dominated Srisaket Sor Rungvisai to win the WBC title back in June and has shown great promise. His footwork, angles and punching power have made him a fan favorite. Timing is everything in this sport, and this may be the time for a new superstar in this division.

Boxing has its own "Original Eight" weight divisions, also known as the "traditional", "classic", or "glamour" divisions. These divisions are the most prominent and widely recognized weight divisions in boxing. Manny Pacquiao has won world championships in the greatest number of the glamour divisions, winning championships in the flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight divisions.

Accordingly, the IBF has a different approach to ranking its boxers. Its protocol requires that the top two positions in its rankings remain vacant until its top two competitors fight. So, after the match, the winner takes one of those two places. While the other place remains vacant until the next top-two contender match.

So, ESPN’s boxing rankings are a reflection of the best fighters in each weight class. Another key point they are subject to change based on recent results and performances. Accordingly, A fighter’s ranking is determined by their achievements in their current weight division. When a fighter moves to a new weight class, their ranking will be updated. So, that happens after their first fight in that division. Then if a fighter holds titles in two boxers are in a boxing match riddle weight classes, they will be ranked in both. Nevertheless, fighters inactive for over 15 months will be removed from the rankings and can re-enter after their next bout. Besides if testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs boxers will be removed also.

The 175-pound division is so good it could easily be higher on the list. Every fighter in the top 10 possesses punching power that can change an outcome of a fight in a second. However, another top-10 P4P fighter, Dmitry Bivol, hovers over this division. He is aided by his impressive defeat of Canelo Alvarez last May. But the jury is still out. Bivol is the superior boxer/puncher, but Artur "The Terminator" Beterbiev is a concussive-punching pressure fighter. Beterbiev has cleaned up most of the division by knocking out champions and winning three titles in the process. A showdown between the two would again add to boxing's deep history, as there has never been an undisputed champion at light heavyweight in the four-belt era.
