World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to increase an item upgrader mod's gear score up to 700, and then add a final perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like an ideally rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while others like weapons do not vary greatly post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to improve their numeric stats, such as the chance to crit, attack damage PvE and damage from PvP. Weapons have a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. A lot of weapons also have a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are used in a unit. This bonus can sometimes exceed the damage that an upgrade alone can cause.

The cost of upgrading a weapon varies on its rarity and current level. For example the weapon with a +2 rating will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade the weapon will continue to increase until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.

Upgrades to weapons also alter the stats of the base. This is generally a positive aspect, but it may also have negative effects. Upgrades can make things unusable, unless you are exceptionally lucky.

Armor items can be upgraded to boost their performance. This can boost the base defense of a chest or helm as well as belts and gloves. These will increase their required strength and agility. Armor also offers an option to reroll its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it may change its roll to a lower value.

The upgrade template for a weapon will display the new stats it will gain upon upgrading and their respective values. This means that a change from a sword with 8 damage to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving an attack damage of 3. The 3% doesn't mean that the weapon will be hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

A weapon can also be rerolled using the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows in the menu for items. The item will be rerolled and alter its stats but it won't reset the weapon's levels or tie it to the account status.

Armor

A few tweaks to your armor can make huge differences in your ability to survive. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE increases in poison or curse, fire or magic resistance, making it easier to navigate through tough terrain. The more defense your character is, the more value you can get from every point of health you have therefore it is important to improve your armor as much as you can.

To upgrade your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four Great Fairy Fountains within the game and in order to unlock each fountain, you have to complete a side quest that involves the Stable Trotters. Once you've completed the primary side quest and have completed the fountain that corresponds and then you can contact any Great Fairy to open up the armor upgrade menu.

Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels, and the amount of materials and Rupees needed for each will vary. For instance the Champion Leathers could be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep pace with a large group of enemies in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, giving the protection needed to survive an entire raid with a few of your friends.

You can't upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor for physical power or spell power. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades for armor you'll wear at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you'll wear for the final boss fight as well as the Monter Parts merchant's mask.

You can also get some benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler at Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Trinkets can be re-upgraded once they are no longer needed and allows players to boost their power and value over time. They can be traded among players which makes them a good alternative to gold.

In general, players should upgrade their most important items first. This usually means the Best item upgrade-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondaries and then other gear items that they will not be replacing soon (for example, a ring or cloak). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when deciding which items to upgrade. For instance when Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank, they should prioritize upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and chest.

Once they have become useless trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher level. The new trinket has an additional 1% bonus. However, a re-upgrade is likely to ruin the previous trinket in the event that it is not salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an alternative salvage tool that is higher-end. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, yet is still cheaper than buying the new one.
